Xendara remained immobile in Persephone’s arms. The pressure of the black mist engulfing her mouth and nostrils stalled her breathing. Her heart rate increased as they traveled through the dark portal. Not wanting to be caught awake, she tapped into her Ja’Frystan powers and slowed her heart rate.

Thump … Thump … Thump …

She continued to slow her heart rate, pushing herself into a conscious hibernation. Traveling through the portal increased the emptiness she felt around her. The only power she felt was from Acacia and Persephone. The rest of the void was empty of all matter and energy. In normal space and even in her own portals, energy pulsed around her, inviting her to share its power. She wasn’t sure where Persephone was taking her, but she knew she couldn’t fight her in this void.

Thump … Thump …

Xendara reached out with her mind to Darijus. Her mood lifted as she latched onto her connection. She slowly pushed a small trace of energy into the bond. In normal space, he could trace her within seconds, but here she wasn’t sure he could follow. She only hoped to leave a trail for him to find her.

Thump …

A whoosh of air flowed around her, causing her to shiver. Energy flooded the surrounding area; they were in normal space.

“You were successful!”

It took all of Xendara’s willpower to remain still at the familiar voice.

“I have time powers; of course, I was successful,” Persephone said as she threw Xendara down to the ground.

She winced at the pain but kept herself limp. A moan came from beside her—Acacia.

“We need to leave. Now!” She felt Persephone walk around her.

Conium hesitated, “We-we can’t.”

“What do you mean, ‘we can’t’?”

“The Desdemonans are requesting us to aid them and…” Conium took a breath, “Xalvador wants to come with us.”

Persephone started laughing, “Like I need his approval. He’s a pathetic version of my real father.”

Xendara heard footsteps walking away from her.

“We’ll help them because we need them, but Xalvador doesn’t come with us.”

Conium let out a breath, “How can I keep him from staying on board?”

“He’s on board my ship?” Persephone said through clenched teeth.

“His ship didn’t move off with the rest. When he found us, he requested boarding. He has some plan to board Secorra’s ship and capture Xendara’s family.”

Her hand slammed down on the console, “He’s still connected to her. I don’t even know why she kept that connection. This version of my mother is more pathetic than my actual mother.”

Thump …

Xendara half-listened to the rest of their conversation. She slowly drew in the surrounding power. Each molecule in the room lent its energy to her.

Thump … Thump …

The photonic energy buzzed beneath her skin, waking her powers and bending to her will.

Thump … Thump … Thump …

Xendara kept her breathing slow, then reached into the time molecules. The Time Crystal grew cold against her skin as a chorus of voices sang in her mind from the Progenitor medallion. A vision of what she needed to do came to her mind.

Her eyes opened.
